Effect of an Indigenous Drug (Speman) on Human Accessory Reproductive Function

چکیده

INTRODUCTION Although rapid progress has been made in improving fertility in women, the treatment of an infertile male has remained very unsatisfactory. This situation is partly due to paucity of our knowledge regarding the factors controlling spermatogenesis in man. The role of testosterone and gonadotropins in the maintenance of spermatogenesis is not clearly understood (Steinberger, 1971). No consistent improvement in the functions of the testis and the accessory reproductive organs has been reported on administration of testosterone, gonadotropins or clomiphene to infertile men (Zarate et al, 1973).

The effect of an indigenous drug, Speman, on the accessory reproductive organs was observed on castrated adult mice and on immature intact mice. The dose related growth of ventral prostate and the systemic increase in the weights as well as the secretions of accessory sex organs of the castrated adults treated with Speman indicated that the drug possessed anabolic-cum-androgen like activity

In Vitro Inhibition of Human Sperm Creatine Kinase by Nicotine, Cotinine and Cadmium, as a Mechanism in Smoker Men Infertility

Background Nicotine, cotinine and cadmium are harmful components of cigarettes that have an effect on human reproductive function. Although the effects of cigarette smoke on male reproductive function is characterized in several articles its mechanism of action is still unknown. In the present study, we investigate the effect of nicotine, cotinine and cadmium on human sperm creatine kinase acti...

Efforts have been made to improve the semen picture of patients with the administration of hormones like testosterone, gonadotrophins or the ovulatory drug, Clomiphene ...

The Effect of Uncoupling Protein Polymorphisms on Growth, Breeding Value of Growth and Reproductive Traits in the Fars Indigenous Chicken

The avianuncoupling protein (avUCP) is a member of the mitochondrial transporter superfamily that uncouples proton entry in the mitochondrial matrix from ATP synthesis. The polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method was used to estimate the allele and genotype frequencies of the UCP/HhaI polymorphisms and to determine associations between these polymorp...
